Interview with the Founder of WatchDial: Making Time Affordable and Stylish
Share
Congratulations on launching WatchDial! What inspired you to create this platform?
Thank you! WatchDial was born from a desire to make quality watches accessible to everyone—whether you're buying your first R500 watch or adding a R20,000 gem to your collection. I saw a gap in the market where affordability and style often don’t meet, and I wanted to change that.
What does the name "WatchDial" mean to you?
The watch dial is where time is displayed—it’s the face of the watch, where function meets design. I felt that name captured the essence of our mission: to help people discover watches that speak to their identity, no matter the price point.
What makes WatchDial different from other watch retailers?
We're about inclusion and curation. Most sites either focus on luxury or cheap, mass-market products. At WatchDial, we’ve intentionally built a catalog that spans a wide range of styles and prices—without compromising on taste or trust.
What’s been the most challenging part of building WatchDial?
Curation, for sure. We didn’t just want to list a bunch of watches. Every piece on WatchDial is handpicked to ensure it meets our standards in design, functionality, and value. It took time to build a collection we’re proud of.
What are your goals for WatchDial over the next few years?
We want to become the leading online destination for watch buyers who care about both budget and aesthetics. Beyond just selling watches, we aim to build a vibrant community—sharing stories, tips, trends, and eventually even launching our own exclusive designs.
For someone new to watches, why start with WatchDial?
Because we make the experience unintimidating and enjoyable. We’ve got watch guides, clear pricing, and a range of styles so you can explore without feeling overwhelmed. It’s about helping you find your timepiece—not just pushing a product.
Last question: what does wearing a watch mean to you personally?
To me, wearing a watch is a small act of self-expression. It's not just about keeping time—it’s about style, presence, and sometimes even nostalgia. At WatchDial, we want every customer to feel like their watch says something meaningful about who they are.
